Lagos NGO brings widows together, set to empower them in 2019

A call has gone out to the federal and state governments to find a lasting solution to the plight of the down trodden, the unemployed and the less privileged in the society especially the Widows.

The Founder of the Women Awareness for Sustainable Empowerment Initiative (WASEI), Ms. Ify Onyegbule made the call at a 1-day interactive session with widows in Lagos and expressed sadness at the plight of the widows who are left to wallow in abject poverty with the death of their husbands.

She observed that some widows who didn’t have any kind of skills suffered more with the passing of a husband because it could be difficult starting all over. Many of the widows at the event lamented that it was difficult for them to pay rent, tae care of their children, pay school fees or even feed their household with the biting economy.

The resource persons at the event, Mrs Nkechi Ali-Balogun of The kings Daughter and Mrs Bose Ironsi of Women Rights and Health Project called on the women to forget the past and look into a brighter future.

32 widows attended the 1day interactive session and they expressed the hope that help will come from well-meaning Nigerians to help them start small businesses to cater for themselves and their children.

Ms Onyegbule called on corporate bodies and individuals to help donate to the cause of these women who have nowhere else to turn to.
