The United States has expressed its interest in issues challenging Nigeria’s democracy.
The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington in a statement shared by U.S. Embassy on its official Twitter handle said the U.S is interested in democracy of Nigeria because “whatever happens to Nigeria affects the world.”
The statement read: “Why does the United States support Nigeria’s democracy? Because what happens in Nigeria will affect the world and it depends on you. It depends on every Nigerian,” Stuart Symington.
He called on Nigerians to stand up and defend democracy, stressing that everything lies only in the hands of Nigerians.
But the Federal Government in a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, at the weekend spoke against foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal problems.
