Ijebu Ode kicks off Agemo Festival

Ijebuland (Ogun State) flagged off its annual Agemo Festival on 5th July with all the Oloja Agemos headed Ijebu Ode. From there, they continued their journey to Imosan, where they would all assemble for the annual pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage route would take the adherents through Epe/Oke-Owa road, Isiwo, Odogbolu enroute Lagos/Benin Expressway, Ijebu Imusin/Ilese Army Barracks, Omu/Ala/Egbe/Ejinrin route, among other routes..

And as has been the practice and tradition, women are advised to keep away from the pilgrimage routes.

A statement from the Palace of the Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland says that the Agemos will begin  the annual ritual with the traditional dance at Imosan (Saturday 6th July).

That done, they will return  to Ijebu Ode on Sunday (7th July), while Olumoro will return on Monday (8th July). The statement also adds that Onire will perform the traditional sacrifice for Oba Awujale on 12th July at Ojofa Itoro, while other Agemo Masquerades will perform their traditional dances at the yard at Isasa Porogun same day.
