Founder of Emerge Women Mrs Mary Ikoku has called for a thorough investigation into the burning to death of a PDP Woman Leader in Kogi state, Mrs Salome Abuh.
This call was made at a side event during the Women’s Dialogue where women from all walks of life gathered to discuss issues of National and global relevance.
Mrs Ikoku who launched the hashtag, #JusticeForSalomeAbuh decried the attack by suspected thugs in the home of Mrs Abuh in broad daylight in Wada Aro, Ochadamu Ward in Ofu local government area of the state.
In the statement jointly issued by Emerge Women, Amazons for Change Initiative and the Igala Noble Women Initiative, the family expressed sadness that the Kogi state police command tagged the incident a reprisal attack.
While signing the condolence register in honor of the Late Abuh, the Ekiti first lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi called on the family to take heart and have faith that the long arm of the law will catch up with those who committed the heinous crime.
In the same vein, former Minister for Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih enjoined the family to come together in one accord and draw strength from one another. She prayed for the repose of the soul of Mrs Abuh and also lent her voice to the calls for justice in the brutal killing of a harmless woman.
Spokesperson for the family, Ms. Achenyo Abuh called on women worldwide and all spirited individuals and human rights organizations to intervene in the matter and continue to press for justice for their mother.
They called on the Federal Government and on relevant authorities to expedite action on the investigation of the case, arraignment and conviction of the culprits after diligent prosecution at the law courts to serve as deterrence to others.
