The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered that the main entry gates to the Nigerian Army Shopping Complex near the rail line at Oshodi be shut down. Hegave the directive in company with the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, during a visit to the scene of an accident where a train collided with two vehicles in the area. He said the Federal and State Governments took the decision to close that side of the gate due to safety concerns. According to him: “The incident is regrettable because it happened on the day all stakeholders reached a consensus to close down the gates into the shopping arena. And this is part of the concerns we have been raising about commuters’ safety on this axis. We need to act fast .This fatal accident should strengthen our resolve to do the needful and prevent a repeat of the sad incident in the future.” He disclosed that the State and Federal governments would create alternative entry and exitdriveways for the shopping arena and other vulnerable points along the railway corridor. An eye witness said two persons; a man and his son driving into the shopping complex but still trying to manoeuvre off the rail line were hit by the train on a top speed Another set of six passengers in a commercial bus, known as Danfo in local parlance, sustained various degrees of injuries after the train dragged the bus for about 800 meters off the point of collision. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA) has disclosed that those injured had been treated at a hospital and discharged.
